Contract Awarded for East End Triangle Project

The Town Council voted 7-0 to move forward with the downtown improvement project.

The Town Council unanimously approved an award of contract in the amount of $548,857.60, Tuesday night, to Magidan Construction Inc. The company will be responsible for the construction of the , which officially got underway earlier this month.

It is the first phase of the Downtown Improvements Project, which will create an updated look to the “gateway” of historic downtown Leesburg.

A new curb, short stone retaining wall, and decorative street signs will be put in place at the intersection of Loudoun and E Market streets, including the addition of an eight-inch caliper red oak.

“This project is going to, I think, enhance the old fashioned beauty of Mom's Apple Pie and also add to the ambiance of the downtown," said Leesburg Mayor Kristen Umstattd. "Dominion Power has been very cooperative in moving a power pole out of the way so we're looking forward to that. And then of course, it will continue with sidewalk on the north side, down to Harrison Street, to make it much easier for pedestrians to get up to Mom's Apple Pie. So I think it should be a very elegant entrance into the town."

The Downtown Improvement project is a funded capital improvement project in the 2012-2017 CIP. The  is also a part of the project.
