Drop the Keys, Bike to Work May 17

Residents are encouraged to take advantage of the W&OD and leave the car behind Friday.

The annual Bike to Work Day, organized by Commuter Connections and the Washington Area Bicyclist Association, is set for Friday, May 17, and residents all over the Washington, DC, region are encouraged to be one of the more than 10,000 area commuters expected to partcipate.

Seventy pit stops are planned throughout DC, Maryland and Virginia with refreshments and opportunities to enter a raffle for a free bicycle. Two pit stops are planned along the W&OD Trail in Loudoun – one in Leesburg and one in Sterling – where participants will find refreshments and prizes. Last year, more than 450 bicycle commuters paid visits to the Loudoun County pit stops; regionwide, more than 12,000 people participated in the event. This year, more than 12,000 people have already registered for the event (the first 12,000 qualified to pick up free event T-shirts).

More information about Bike to Work Day, including a link to the online registration form, can be found at www.loudoun.gov/biketowork.
