Free Income Tax Preparation Assistance Still Available

Leesburg will offer two locations for individuals and families who earned less than $50,270 in 2011.

With the approaching tax deadline of April 17, there is still time to receive free help in preparing their tax returns.

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program and the AARP Tax-Aide programs are operated by Internal Revenue Service-trained and certified volunteers who provide one-on-one assistance to taxpayers in preparing state and federal returns for 2011. This service is available at several locations for both individuals and families who earned less than $50,270 in 2011.

Services will be provided at:

* The Shenandoah Building, 102 Heritage Way, in Leesburg, Tuesday and Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 12 noon. 

* The Rust Library, 380 Old Waterford Road, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Monday and Friday until April 13. Appointments are not necessary.

Additional sites in Northern Virginia are listed at www.nvacash.org or www.irs.gov. Taxpayers must bring photo identification and Social Security cards or ITIN paperwork for all persons on the tax return.
