Holiday Craft Show to Benefit Maggie's Closet

Nineteen local crafters will sell items for the holidays while supporting the only free clothing store in Leesburg.

Nineteen crafters will be at the historic Carlheim Mansion on Saturday to help guests shop for the holiday season. Among them will be Jen Allen with Gold Canyon Candles, Fabiola Vera with Diamonds Boutique and Katie Dayton with Treats for Pets and More.

The will take place inside the mansion, which is normally closed to the public. Proceeds will go directly to funding Maggie’s Closet, the newest program of ALLY Advocacy Center, located on the Paxton Campus. It is the area’s first and only free clothing store, which will be open for tours on Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m.

“Maggie’s Closet is basically a ,” said Advocacy Coordinator Darcy Cunningham, for those who are in need. “They can come, no questions asked, and pick out what they want. They only difference is they don’t have to pay.”

Cunningham said Maggie’s Closet is only for those who are in a tight spot. Families are welcome to stop by and shop during normal business hours and no questions will be asked. The all-volunteer staff relies on the generosity of the community and fundraising to fill the closet. Saturday’s holiday event will help with the purchase of items that can be given back to local community.

“It’s unique. You’re not going to find these things in the mall,” Cunningham said, in regards to Saturday’s fundraiser. “It’s neat stuff and the price points are going to be very reasonable.

“I think the most important part is you’re going to be able to see the mansion, which has been closed, and you’re helping support the Closet," she said. 'In the long run that’s going to help us to help more families.”

The free event will take place at 601 Catoctin Cir NE, in Leesburg from 1 to 4 p.m. For more information contact Tammy Goddard at tgoddard@paxtoncampus.org or Darcy Cunningham at dcunninghamham@paxtoncampus.org.
