Holiday Shopping Spotlight: Leesburg Hobbies & Collectibles
Whether you're a hard-core collector or just someone who likes trains, Leesburg Hobbies & Collectibles has every locomotive under the sun
Though they opened their store in 2001, the Craig family has been living with model trains for much longer. Co-owner Grace Craig says that "my husband had this as a hobby, and I have two boys and a girl who are all adults now, and we just kind of dragged them in with us."
Leesburg Hobbies & Collectibles has model trains for everyone: whether it's a Thomas the Tank Engine set for your toddler, or a $6,000 engine for an avid collector, all ages and price ranges are represented in the shop.
Grace Craig said the holiday season is their busiest.
"The ready-to-run sets are very popular," she said. "They come with the engine and some cars, and the track and transformer. It all comes in one package."
Her husband, co-owner Mike Craig said gifts for train-lovers vary. "[It] depends on the age and how much space is available," he said. He recommends starter kits for those who want to dabble, but for enthusiasts with more time and money "you want to get the pieces individually and get the exact cars he needs."
Leesburg Hobbies & Collectibles isn't just trains: they gifts for a variety of enthusiasts. There are model car kits, rock polishers, kites and chess sets lining the walls of the store. They're also a Boy Scout and Girl Scout distributor, so they can get anything you need for scouting as well.
Leesburg Hobbies & Collectibles is located at 9 W. Market St., right next to the Tally Ho Theatre. They have special holiday hours through January 4: Tuesday-Saturday 11-6, Sunday 12-4, and closed Mondays. They will be open on Christmas Eve from 9-12 and closed December 25-27.
