It’s Official: Leesburg Is Virginia’s Largest Town

Councilwoman Hammler makes the announcement during the council meeting Tuesday.

The Town of Leesburg has surpassed Blacksburg as Virginia’s largest town. Leesburg Councilwoman Katie Sheldon Hammler made the announcement Tuesday at the end of the Town Council’s regular meeting. She learned the news during a recent Virginia Municipal League conference.

"It was disclosed that Leesburg is now officially the largest town in Virginia," Hammler said, adding that Leesburg's population of 44,400 edged out Blacksburg's 42,600. "So we're significantly larger."

Loudoun County's 2012 population was estimated at 328,533.
