LCSO To Assist With “Operation Porch Lights Out”

Visits will be made to monitor the homes of registered sex offenders to ensure they are abiding the rules on Halloween.

The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office will assist the Virginia Department of Corrections- Probation Parole District 25 with “Operation Porch Lights Out” on Oct. 31.

As part of the operation, Loudoun County Sheriff’s Deputies will team-up with members of Adult Probation/Parole to visit residences of sex offenders in Loudoun County who are on probation or parole. The purpose of these visits will be to monitor the homes where they live on Halloween and to ensure they are abiding by the restrictions imposed by probation/ parole.

If a convicted sex offender is on supervision with the probation and parole office, which means that restrictions have been placed on them as they relate to probation/parole and not state law, they are required to have their porch lights off, no inviting decorations and can’t answer the door for children on Halloween.

The Virginia Department of Corrections is working with law enforcement throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia on Oct. 31, with random home visits of convicted sex offenders to ensure that these individuals are in compliance on Halloween.
