Leesburg Coffee Shop Owners Close Doors, Open in MD
Shoes Cup and Cork Club owners will focus on new sandwich shop in Frederick, Md.
Shoes Cup and Cork Club, a favorite coffee shop among locals, closed its doors over the Christmas holiday, leaving empty what had become a favorite spot next to Lightfoot Restaurant in downtown Leesburg since it opened there in 2009.
But the owners, Ed and Jane Shihadeh, have plans for another store over the river: They're opening a new sandwich shop in Frederick, Md.
The shop, called Philly Rabe's, will be located at 241 N. Market St. in Frederick.
In a phone interview with Patch, Ed Shihadeh said the new shop will feature Philadelphia old world-style sandwiches, much like the ones he and his wife enjoyed while growing up in the Philadelphia area.
Shihadeh said they anticipate the shop will open by this Monday.
"We decided to move our business to Frederick because we found a great location on Market Street and it seemed like a good idea to open a sandwich shop," Shihadeh said.
The owners had originally wanted to keep Shoes open as well, but said "there is just not enough time in the day for me to keep it open."
Shihadeh has many fond memories of Shoes adding, "it had great ambiance and atmosphere, I hope they are able to get another manager to open it again."
Mike Miller, of SWaN Investors, who manages the building said "so far there is no new information about the space at this time."
