Leesburg Man Dies After Ashburn Road Motorcycle Accident
Truck’s failure to yield may have led to crash; rider wore novelty-type helmet.
A Leesburg man riding his motorcycle along Ashburn Road lost his life Aug. 1 after colliding with a pickup truck.
Kenneth Maurice Irish III, 55, was riding his 1998 Harley Davidson north on Ashburn Road near its intersection with Faulkner Parkway around 5 p.m. David Wayne Schrader, 49, of Stephens City, was heading westbound on Faulkner and was attempting to cross Ashburn Road when the crash occurred.
Emergency personnel transported Irish to Inova Loudoun Hospital in Lansdowne where he died from his injuries.
A preliminary investigation revealed that Schrader did not yield at the stop sign on Faulkner, according to a Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office press release. Investigators also determined that Irish’s helmet was a novelty-type that has not been approved for use on highways.
The crash remains under investigation by the sheriff’s Crash Reconstruction Unit and the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office will review the results.
