The department took home top honors in four award categories during the 58th annual conference of the Virginia Recreation and Park Society (VRPS) last month.
The Town of Leesburg’s Parks & Recreation Department recently took home top honors in four award categories during the 58th annual conference of the Virginia Recreation and Park Society (VRPS) in September.
- Best New Event for the Leesburg Airshow
- Best Traditional Marketing Piece for the Leesburg Airshow poster
- Best Non-Traditional Marketing Piece for the Ida Lee and A.V. Symington Aquatic Center car magnets
- Best New Building for the maintenance shop at Ida Lee Park
The VRPS’ annual awards are a prestigious statewide program that honors individuals, agencies and organizations throughout Virginia who have demonstrated excellence in any of several areas during the previous year.
“It’s always an honor to be recognized by your peers on a statewide basis,” said Leesburg’s Director of Parks & Recreation Richard Williams. “This type of accomplishment is made possible through the hard work of our team of dedicated parks and recreation professionals along with the support of the Mayor, Town Council and the entire Leesburg community.”
VRPS President Cindy S. Roeder offered congratulations to each winner for their outstanding contributions to the profession and their community.
“Entries in every population category, from around the state, allow us to recognize the best in our business while raising the standards and quality of programs, facilities and events in every region," she said.
There were over 110 applications that were received this year, vying for awards in seventeen categories. The nominations were evaluated by a panel of parks and recreational professionals.
