Leesburg Police Conduct Investigation at Simpson Middle School

Police officers began an immediate investigation after a student had expressed concern regarding another student back on Feb. 28.

 

The Leesburg Police conducted an investigation at J L Simpson Middle School on Tuesday, Feb. 28 after a student had expressed concern that another student might have been considering an act of violence.

Police officers were contacted by the child's parent and an investigation began immediately. It was soon determined that the student in question was in need of psychiatric services and, with the cooperation of his parents, he was brought in for evaluation.

Leesburg Police are continuing the investigation in coordination with Loudoun County School officials and the Commonwealth Attorney’s office. Tidmore said this case shows the importance of students doing the right thing.

Chief Price praised the young man’s courage in bringing this information forward saying that “his courage and desire to do the right thing possibly averted a possibly dangerous situation at one of our schools.”

Price also credited the strong working relationship between the Leesburg Police Department and the Loudoun County School system as a major factor in achieving a quick resolution in this case.

Kuddos to the child for raising the issue and to the parents for taking it seriously. This situation should be discussed at home with other children and use it as a teaching moment.
