There's been a lot of talk regarding a new business that recently opened in downtown Leesburg.

La Tache, French for “the spot,” offers a variety of items to spice up the boudoir including lingerie, hosiery, shoes, lotions, candles and novelty items.

Store owner Shannon Biggs said she decided to open the store after seeing all of the foot traffic that was in the downtown area.

“My husband and I were actually in Leesburg in November to have lunch,” Biggs said. “As we were walking around we noticed there were just a ton of couples, and women, and the streets were quite busy.”

On their way to Lightfoot, Biggs said she noticed that the corner building was available for rent. Reminding her of the same store that she owns in Old Town Alexandria, she decided to move in.

Since opening, Biggs said the store has received great exposure. The inside is what many people have been referring to as an "upscale" boutique. It includes custom draperies and antiques, which were purchased from the downtown area. It's the perfect storefront location, Biggs said.

“A girlfriend of mine is actually an interior designer so she came down and helped me,” Biggs said. “We really wanted to make it very boutiquey, to fit in and for it to be a very nice upscale store.”

Just over a week ago, Leesburg hosted it's monthly Girl's Night Out event. Biggs said La Tache did quite well. Already she's been asked to take part in next month's event and whether she'd be interested in cross promotion with other local businesses.

“So far I've gotten nothing but compliments and people tell me, 'I'm glad you're here', 'It's something different, 'It's something to help bring in different traffic to the downtown'. And, actually, business has been quite brisk. The foot traffic's been great,” Biggs said.

Demographic wise, Biggs said her new store attracts 60 percent women, 30 percent couples and 10 percent males. Although there is no age limit to enter the store, you must be 18 years of age to go into the back.

“There is nothing there that you couldn't see if you walked into any department store or Victoria’s Secret,” Biggs said, regarding the lingerie. On the other side of the store, next to the novelties and such, you must be 18.

Biggs said she's happy with the decision she made to bring her business to Leesburg.

“It is just a lingerie store. And it's a nice store if you want to get an outfit to make yourself feel sexy,” Biggs said. “It's been quite enjoyable and I've enjoyed meeting all the different merchants and residents and enjoy being part of the community,” she said.

La Tache, located at 10 S. King Street, is open Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. - 10 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to midnight and Sunday from noon to 8 p.m. For more information, call 571-918-4634.
