There were a lot of laughs in downtown Leesburg last Friday night, which can be heard every month at the Tally Ho Theater.

Featuring local comedians Steve Heaton and David Sly, Off The Cuff includes a blend of ‘Whose Line Is It Anyway’ and ‘Saturday Night Live’ all in one.

Heaton described it as a hybrid of improv comedy, which promises to bring a number of surprises.  

“We always try to make it a brand new experience for the audience,” Heaton said. “You can come to back to back shows and it’s always going to be something new.”

Off the Cuff originally started in Sterling, back in 2004, Heaton said, soon after he and Sly graduated from high school. The show, which features a new theme each month, also includes guest performers that you might find in D.C., Chicago, New York or L.A. areas.

“Now they reside here in suburbia,” Heaton said. “They still want to perform so we bring all of that here without the hassle of parking.”

But what really makes the show are its fans, Sly said, which have supported the monthly performance ever since.

“For a local show, we have a great following. Very, very loyal fans and we were very happy with where it was going,” Sly said. “It’s a lot of fun to do and hopefully a lot of fun to see.

"We really do challenge anybody to come because we guarantee that they’ll have fun.”

Bluemont resident Dave Dukinfield said he’s been to the last twenty Off the Cuff shows with his 15-year-old daughter, Amanda. They sit in the same seat every time, he said, and they enjoy the spontaneity and continuity.

“Not only are they sharp in the comedy but they can actually bring jokes from other sketches back in,” Dukinfield said. “Raw stage comedy is just like a good New York City hotdog. It’s there, it’s real, it doesn’t get more real than this.”

“I love just the jokes and coming here,” Amanda Dukinfield said. “It’s new every time.”

The next Off the Cuff performance is scheduled for Friday, February, 24. Heaton said the show will be “love-themed” in honor of Valentine’s Day.

“[There will be] times where love goes good and times when it goes horribly, horribly wrong in a funny way," Heaton said.

The show will begin at 8 p.m. and lasts about an hour to an hour and a half long. Tickets are $10 per person and all shows are rated PG-13. 

However, if you're looking for an option for the entire family, Heaton suggests checking out Last Ham Standing, which takes place every First Friday in Leesburg.
