Loudoun Ponders Stadium Admissions Tax
Tax would require enabling legislation from the General Assembly; apply to all events at any professional or semi-professional stadium in the county.
Among the items the Loudoun Board of Supervisors will consider sending with state legislators to next year’s General Assembly session in Richmond is a request to tax stadium admissions.
While, as proposed, the request would apply to all events at any stadium used by professional or semi-professional sports teams, the primary target is the stadium planned for the Loudoun Hounds — and possibly a North American Soccer League team.
The request came from the Hounds, with the idea the tax would be returned to pay for construction of the stadium, which is approved near the Route 7/Route 28 interchange in the planned Kincora development.
As currently worded, the request calls for up to a 10 percent tax on admission to games or any other events at county stadiums.

Why is this tax being placed to pay for the Stadium? The primary approval of this stadium was for it to be builted and paid for by private companies and private money. Is the county paying for this stadium to be built? If so, then why wasn't that put out to the public? Additionally, if the stadium is a private build, then why is the county going to tax to help them pay for the stadium? This might be a great way to increase tourism and economic generator, but the county government is now helping a private company to build a stadium and then paying for it with tax money. This is concerning on all levels. I hope the county will have complete control of the stadium if the tax money is paying for it. Someone needs to show some accountability in this government to the people in the community.

The ballpark remains built for and paid by 100% private money. The potential for adding Loudoun County to the Virginia Code to have an admissions fee doesn't change that in any way.

Then explain why the county needs money to pay for something to do with this stadium? I watched the Board meeting and Scott York supports and made comments to the tax and said it would help pay for the stadium. Why would he say that, if this is a private money set up.

Douglas, I also would like to know the answers to your questions! They are rezoning our planned town center so they can move the stadium to my back yard (2500 feet from the Adult Community of Potomac Green). 300 people showed up at a meeting to get questions answered about noise and traffic impact. No answers, no planning, no details! This is not an 'option' to the residents who will be mostly impacted. No concern for the quality of life of their constituents? I'm not looking forward to rock bands rattlling my windows until 11pm at night after I paid a premium on my lot to back up to trees and peace and quiet.

In a word, slimy. It is hard enough to find out who the "Hounds" really are (an LLC owned by and LLC that shares office space with a developer/builder), try to do a search and see what you can come up with. This sounds like a dirty deal that they hope doesn't get much attention and since Leesburg and Ashburn Today are listed on the Hounds sponsor page I doubt that there will be any real journalistic investigation.
