Morven Park to Host 2nd Annual Governor's Fair

The event relives the days when former resident and 55th governor of Virginia, Westmoreland Davis, invited the community onto his property for frozen treats made from the cream of some of his prized cows.

The second annual Governor’s Country Fair will take place at Morven Park on Sunday. Carriage rides, free ice cream, games, tours, and live music are just some of the festivities taking place.

“The event is based off an activity that Governor Davis used to do here at the mansion,” said Director of Public Programming Abby Pfisterer. At the end of school he would invite the students from Leesburg high schools out for a picnic and always offered ice cream. So we’re carrying on that tradition by having the fair.”

Pfisterer said that the event, which attracted more than 600 people last year, is a great way to highlight what Morven Park is all about. There will be areas dedicated to agriculture, equestrian activities, and the great outdoors. Ice cream is provided by Moo Thru.

In addition, a Bake Off will be sponsored by Mom's Apple Pie Bakery. Contestants will compete in one of three categories. Prizes include gift certificates to Mom’s Apple Pie and Morven Park, ribbons for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place and, of course, bragging rights. The last day to register for the contest is Friday.

“It’s a really fun event and definitely a great thing to do on Sunday. The weather is supposed to be beautiful,” Pfisterer said. “It’s a way to come and see what Morven Park really is. Learn our history, learn about the programming we do and find what fits for your lifestyle. We really have a wide range of programming and it’s a great way to find out what we’re all about and what we can offer.”

The Governor's Country Fair will take place on Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. Tickets are $15 in advance, per car load, and $20 the day of the event.  Tickets can be purchased online
