Moviegoers React to Tally Ho Closure

Wednesday's announcement as some loyal fans quite disappointed. The good news is that the building may reopen as a entertainment venue.

The Tally Ho will continue to operate as normal following Wednesday's announcement that the theatre will close it's doors on Sept. 3, but moviegoers who were taking advantage of the theatre's $3 Thursday promotion expressed dismay over the news.

“I am so disappointed to hear that,” said Amie Oehn of Lovettsville, whose boys are just old enough to start going to the movies now.

“There is so much character here,” Oehn said. “It’s nice to be able to come here instead of the big showy movie theaters, and the price is right.”

“I’m going to be very sad,” Iana Lombardo of Ashburn said. “I love this theater.” Lombardo, who formerly lived in Italy, said the Tally Ho reminded her of the theater in the classic movie Cinema Paradiso.

“I come here every month, every time a new movie comes out that I want to see,” Lombardo said, adding that she gets a very good deal on Groupon.

Facebook followers of Leesburg Patch also expressed sorrow at the theatre’s announcement:

Meredith Lefforge: “Noooo! That's so disappointing! So sad!”

Karen Apfeldorf: “That's really sad. I liked having a local choice that's not a megaplex.”

Heather Grow Bensel: “It's heartbreaking. My kids could walk there themselves and there was a sense of community.”

Molly Pender Stiles: “My heart is breaking! I love that place!”

It will continue as a performing arts and movie venue; I will rehab the auditorium and improve the lobby and the mezzanine. There will be weekend concerts and we will continue three dollar Thursday's.
