China King is good...but I've never understood what all the fuss is about.
Jasmine knocked my socks off the first time I went, and has ruined me for restaurant Chinese ever since.

haven't been to wei's will have to check it out.
(to be honest...much as I love Jasmine for Chinese, we almost only ever get sushi when we're there. they're by FAR the best sushi in the immediate area. if we get chinese it's because we're ordering delivery)

Hi I'm new to town. I moved here last September and have been to china king pei Wei and golden china. I have to say I wasn't wowed by any of them. China king is uneventful, pei Wei is too sweet and golden china is very bland. After reading Chris' comments I'll have to try jasmin and see how we like it.

China King is the kind of place where you can relax and enjoy a good meal. It might not be flashy, but it's really all about the food and service, and for that, it's great. I like the family-friendly type atmosphere. One of the staff is Mindy, who has served us in the past, and she's great. Two thumbs up!

Don't bother. I am surprised that the health inspector hasn't shut them down yet. We found a live cabbage worm in my wife's dinner order. Yuck!!!

The health inspection agency's are not idiots, they run random checks on these restaurants, and if a restaurant was truly dirty to the extent where bugs appear in food, it would be have been shut down already. I have never eaten at most of these restaurants but I would try them all before judging. I will probably try China King just because of Steve C's comment. I love Chinese food!!

John, I encourage you to try China King, and hope you have a better dining experience there than we did. Try all the others too, and then you can decide for yourself which is right for you. Best of luck!

Pei Wei is just PF Chiangs "fast food" - literalliy. it's the same company, just a limited menu.
Golden China is typical strip-mall chinese.

Chris, unfortunately Pei Wei isn't in our directory otherwise I would have listed them. Do you like it there?

And while I'm not going to jump up and down about China King, I don't have anything bad to say about them.

I love China King! Not only is the food great, but it's a wonderful family owned and operated restaurant in old town. It was my favorite 'special treat restaurant' when I was a kid, and I still enjoy visiting when I come home to the Burg.

Jasmine is hands down the best. The food is infinitely better than any of the other choices (both on this list and off!), the service is excellent and very personal (they always remember you--even what you like to order!), the ambiance is perfect--it is all-around the best. You can tell the difference in the food quality, for example, when you order General Tso's Chicken at Jasmine, it is a tender piece of meat lightly breaded. Compare this to Wei's Garden, China King, James Cafe, etc. and you'll get a hunk of fat, heavily breaded and fried. There is simply no comparison. On a side note, I will never return to China King, as my wife found a live cabbage worm on her plate (from the cabbage, no doubt) because the vegetables were not properly cleaned and washed. Disgusting! We complained to the waitress, who deducted the cost of my wife's meal. How about serving clean, fresh food instead? Never again. I've been eating at Jasmine ever since, with no problems ever, and great dining experiences every time!

Steve, I don't see how you could have found a live worm since they don't serve salad. Which "waitress" did you complain to? They've had the same 3 waiters for years...just curious. China King is a very clean establishment as far as I can tell. By the way, I love their General Tso's chicken, they use only chicken breast and the breading was very light and the sauce, perfect! Actually all of the food I've tasted at China King is very fresh because it is made as you order. I vote for China King!

Lindsey, as I stated in my original post, it was a cabbage worm found in the entree, not a salad. Cabbage worms are found in cabbage, as you might deduce from the name. If you've eaten there, you probably know that they do cook with cabbage (as most chinese restaurants do). However, they did not properly clean the vegetables, otherwise they would have found the worm. China King is run-down, and even without the worm (which we discovered at the end of our meal, much to our horror), the food was mediocre. As someone who knows chinese food better than most, I can tell you that theirs is so-so. It isn't terrible, but after the worm experience, we just couldn't bring ourselves to give them another chance to impress us. As for the waitress' name, I couldn't tell you. I didn't make it a point to ask. But I assure you she was female. She may have been the owner or a relation, I simply don't know. But rather than trying to discredit our true experience, please stick to relating your own. We did not have a good experience there, and every word of what I have related is true. My wife are very particular about food, and there is simply no comparison between Jasmine and China King--worms or not. Jasmine is far superior in every way. Every guest, friend, business colleague, etc. that I have brought there was very impressed. That is why we continue to dine there. It's the best!

Steve, I was just saying that everything is cooked there when it comes to veggies and meat, so if there is a "LIVE" worm (as you've stated), wouldn't it have been stir fried or steamed to death?

Lindsey, I'm not sure why you continuously attempt to argue with my experience or discredit it. The bottom line is that there was a live worm in our food. Period. To be honest, I don't particularly care how it got there, we were just upset that it was there. Needless to say, it isn't my problem anymore, it is yours--because we don't dine there anymore and you do! If you would like to investigate how the worm got there, I suggest you take it up with them, not with me via this posting. Happy hunting!

Have lived in Leesburg for 8 years, my first attempt at Chinese was China King, they ruined veggie fried rice. I mean, how can you ruin veggie fried rice?

Jasmie, easy.

China King is like one of those successful businesses that have been around for a long time, they have been around the longest and have the best food in the area. In my opinion, there seems to be a lot of NEGATIVE comments coming from Jasmine supporters. I guess being the best in the area will draw intense competition...even those who aren't trying to achieve their status just by good food and service, but by being negative towards the competition. China King all the way!

I bet most all of these restaurants are good, instead of bashing one or the other just go and try one out. If the food is bad don't go again, all these owners are just trying to make a living. I also highly doubt some of these comments are real, the internet is full of trolls. If a restaurant really had a worm in their food I am pretty sure they would have been closed down already. I am just a young man who loves food, please dont spread hate.

Doubt all you want John. We found a worm. That isn't to say that each meal comes with a worm, but you must understand that if we find a worm in our food, we're not going back. Instead of doubting or attempting to discredit the posts of others, please stick to posting your own experiences. Every word of mine is true--worm and all.

China King. Is hands down the best. I've been eating there ever since I was a kid for 20 plus years. Best General Tso's around. Never have had a bad meal there. Ever. Fresh food from nice people that are proud of their restaurant. Haters gon' hate.
