Readers' Choice: Favorite Historic Site
A few major battles and other Civil War-era events bring thousands of tourists to Loudoun County every year. Nominate your favorite historic spot!
Update: You nominated the best historic site in Loudoun County, and now the voting round of Patch's Readers' Choice 2012 begins.
Cast a vote to help crown a winner. Voting continues through 11:59 p.m. Aug. 17. Only one vote per user — tell your friends and family to log on to pick their favorite, too!
Original: Loudoun County is steeped in history.
There's a number of Civil War trails, the Balls Bluff Cemetary, Morven Park, Oatlands, battlefields and so many more that make tourism a big part of the local economy.
We want to know which historic site in Loudoun County should get the title of Patch’s Readers’ Choice Favorite Historic Site. Where do you bring relatives and friends when they come into town? Which spot is the best for school field trips?
Put your nominations in the comments section below.
We’ll keep accepting nominations through July 9. After that, nominations will be closed and we’ll start the voting, so make sure to get in your favorites now.
All you need to do to nominate a site is to add it in the comments below. If you already see the site you want to nominate, make sure to add your comment about why it should be included, because we may not be able to add all sites to our poll and we want to make sure the top ones make it into the poll.
Check out the other Readers’ Choice categories in Ashburn Patch and Leesburg Patch, too.
Thanks in advance for your participation.
And don’t forget to sign up for the Ashburn Patch Newsletter or the Leesburg Patch Newsletter to find out when voting starts so you can support your favorite historic site and see who wins.

I agree: Ball's Bluff! Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes's first battle alongside Paul Revere's grandson. Winston Churchill's great-uncle fired a cannon. The only place where a serving US Senator ever died in battle, and a personal friend of Abraham Lincoln at that. The local soldiers of the 8th Virginia faced the Harvard Regiment. Hundreds swimming for their lives after fearless Confederate charges. What a story! .

I love red rock, I know it's not that historical although it does have some ruins there, I just enjoy the trails and the river and the hand over foot climb up the steep hillside :)
