Customers who have purchased Kirkland brand smoked salmon from Costco are being alerted this week that it may possibly contain traces of salmonella, according to an article posted on Newsday.
The recall follows an investigation which followed hundreds of people in the Netherlands who reportedly became sick after consuming the product.
U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Lola Russell was quoted in the article saying that the federal agency has recorded 85 cases from 27 states starting July 1. A possible link between the two cases is currently being investigated.
Until then, Costco is in the process of contacting customers who may have purchased the product in recent weeks.
The item is currently being pulled from stores including the Leesburg location. Those who may have questions or concerns are asked to call the Edwards Ferry location at 703-669-5060.
