Town Council Approves Route 15 Easements
Leesburg Town Council also adjusts public works budget Tuesday to account for vehicle repairs.
The Leesburg Town Council approved a resolution Tuesday night granting permanent and temporary easements for the Route 15 (South King Street) Widening Phase II project.
According to town staff, the easements are necessary to construct phase II, and will go along the roads and sidewalks during construction, though it's not clear when they will be put in place.
The project, which is a fully funded capital project for the widening of the roadway to a four lane divided street and a multi-use trail along the west side of the road, is currently underway.
The council's consent agenda also included a resolution for a supplemental appropriation in the amount of $21,251 to the FY2013 General Fund Operating budget.
According to town documents, six town vehicles have been in accidents during the current fiscal year. The cost to repair them exceeds $22,000 to date, which is substantially more than the $10,000 planned for in the public works budget.
Insurance claims were filed with the town’s insurance company to cover the repair costs and the town received a total of $21,251 in insurance payments. As a result, approval was needed in order to adjust the budget.
Other items approved on the consent agenda included:
- an award of contract for repairs on Airport Hangar D, as well as a supplemental appropriation from settlement proceeds at the Leesburg Executive Airport
- lease renewal for the Leesburg Hangar Condominium Association, Inc.
The Leesburg Town Council will hold its next work session at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 26 at Town Hall. It can also be seen live on Leesburg's Government Access Channel, Comcast Channel 67 and Verizon Channel 35, or by webcast.
