Terri, it’s obvious that taxes have to pay for it. But I understood the bulk of it is paidRead Morefor by federal taxes and the federal budget agreement presumably already covers it, so aren’t we already paying for it? Our Virginia taxes are going to the other states that signed up for it! The next Congress will have an opportunity to vote to eliminate funding for this if they wish, but couldn’t we pul out if that happens? However, consider that there are other ways we all pay for people who hospital emergency rooms, by law, have to treat even if those patients can’t pay their bills. The hospitals make up for that by raising rates to those who can pay their bills, whether via their health insurers, Medicaid, or out of pocket. There is a theory that if more people could afford annual check-ups ailments could be either prevented or caught and treated early when the cost of treatment is low, so the overall cost of per capita health care will decline. I don’t know if that theory will pan out, but I think it was the basis for the argument that the new federal health law will reduce overall American health care cost, not increase it.

I liked the comment about how the three branches of the Virginia government was held by a singleRead Morepar ty. What went wrong? I feel as though things went pretty well. Just look at the federal level. We have two branches controlled by one party. America is worse of today than a half dozen years ago. Maybe people should look at what their voting decisions have done in the past 6 years. Clearly, something has gone wrong in our once great country!
