Leesburg Business Appreciation Award Winners Named

The town of Leesburg announces the winners, and honorable mentions, during a ceremony Wednesday night.

For the 12th consecutive year, the Leesburg Town Council and the Leesburg Economic Development Commission recognized town business businesses with the Leesburg Business Awards, presenting the awards during a ceremony Wednesday attended by nearly 300 people. “The nominees and winners represent the best of Leesburg,” said Marantha Edwards, the Town’s Economic Development Manager. “The range and diversity of industries included among the winners speaks volumes about the strength of the Town’s business community.” In addition, more 170 businesses that have been in business in the Town of Leesburg for 25 years or more received special recognition as the towns’ Legacy Businesses.  Here’s the list of Leesburg Business Award winners and honorable …

Leesburg Brewing Company Now Pouring Daily

Mayor, council members, other elected officials grabbed a beer Thursday at one of Leesburg's newest restaurants.

Mayor Kristen Umstattd and members of the the Leesburg Town Council joined Del. Randy Minchew (R-10), Supervisor Ken Reid (R-Leesburg) and other town officials for a beer at Leesburg Brewing Company, which just opened on Loudoun Street in downtown Leesburg. The owners are already familiar faces in Leesburg Mike and JoAnne Carroll own the Leesburg Vintner, while Jim and Lori Corcoran owne Corcoran Vineyards and Brewing. Besides a range of beers on tap, with an option for a four-beer sampler, Leesburg Brewing offers wine and a range of food from burgers and bratwurst to wings, salads and fish and chips. King Street to Lose Parking for Wider Sidewalks

Leesburg Town Council members hope the changes will invite more arts and entertainment downtown.

Leesburg Town Council members wrangled Tuesday night over the best way to proceed with changes along King Street downtown that offer the best bang for the buck. A divided council voted 5-2 to adopt the option of three available (Plan A) that calls for the removal of the most parking spaces along the street in exchange for wider sidewalks and the potential for outdoor dining and other activities. The King Street changes, which run from Loudoun Street to Cornwall Street, are part of the overall all Downtown Improvements Project. “I’m excited about this,” said Councilwoman Kelly Burk. “I’m excited about the prospect that we’re going to make some changes.” Burk and other council members made clear in their comments that their votes were …

Hey Leesburg! Wanna attract more business to the Downtown area? have restaurants stay open past 9pm! Even establishments whose doors are open after 9pm only serve at the bar! Almost all restaurants in Leesburg, the kitchen closes at 9pm. It's gotten to the point where if it's anywhere close to 8pm, we don't even bother going into Leesburg for dinner. Leesburg's Newest Brewpub Plans Ribbon Cutting

Leesburg Brewing Company recently opened its doors along Loudoun Street SW.

The Leesburg Brewing Company, which recently opened along Loudoun Street SW in Leesburg, has planned an official kickoff ceremony for the new brewpub. Dulles Town Center Begins Work on Movie Theater

Regal has planned a 10-theater complex at the mall just east of Route 28.

Lerner Enterprises, the developer of the Dulles Town Center, has announced plans for a 2,000-seat, 10-theater movie complex at the mall to be called the Regal Dulles Town Center Stadium 10 & RPX Theaters. The RPX stands for Regal Premium Experience. The new theaters are expected to open in the middle of 2014. The project consists of a 45,000 square-foot theater complex, including a new mall entrance, between JCPenney and Sears. Construction will not interfere with regular mall operation. Why do you think think the county has any controls over how many movie theaters there are? They control zoning, not what someone builds. I think its all zoned for retail and movie theaters are part of that. FYI- I'LL bet they close the old 20 screen across the street.   more ›

Leesburg Business Awards Set for May 15

Check out the list of nominees in advance of the annual event.

The annual Leesburg Business Awards ceremony is for Wednesday, May 15 at ProJet Aviation at Leesburg Executive Airport, where the town will recognize the business community, and particularly independent business owners, as the backbone of the community and the nation’s economy. Eligible businesses and organizations must be primarily physically located within the corporate limits of the town.  Persons nominated for the George C. Marshall Award are not required to reside within the Town limits. Businesses that have been operating for 25 years or more will also be recognized at the reception as Leesburg’s Legacy Businesses. The Art Station Opens at the Village at Leesburg

The locally owned business focuses on the fun of art; professional training not required.

Gigi Toth, of Falls Church, and Julie Lele, of Reston, held the grand opening ceremony for their new business, The Art Station, Saturday at the Village at Leesburg. Councilwoman Kelly Burk and Mayor Kristen Umstattd turned out for a ribbon-cutting event and presented a plaque to one the many news businesses popping up around Leesburg. “We just love the community here,” Lele said, adding that the Village was developing into a family-oriented shopping center. She said they decided to open the business to provide “something that met the busy lifestyles of families.” The Art Station offers family art classes, adult classes and summer camps. Kaine Pays a Visit to GMU-affilited Incubator in Leesburg

Mason Enterprise Center businesses and others welcomed the U.S. Senator Friday.

U.S. Senator dropped by the Mason Enterprise Center (MEC) in Leesburg Friday afternoon to lend his ear to local businesses and give a brief update about what’s happening on the Hill. The MEC is an incubator, which provides space and other assistance to those wishing to establish a new business. And the Leesburg facility has proven successful. “We are now at 100 percent capacity,” said Susan Henson, regional manager for the MEC and co-founder of Idea Fusion, adding that there’s also a waiting list. Kaine offered a quick update about the work going on in Congress, including his bill to provide veterans with credit for their skills to assist with post-military resumes; the Marketplace Fairness Act, which imposes a sales tax for online …
