Heritage High School Presents "Les Miserables" This Weekend

Bringing "Les Miserables" to the stage has been years in the making for Heritage High School's theater director Montana Brown.  Since the age of four, it has been her favorite Broadway show.  Now in her fourth year as director, she felt the time was right, given the talented group of students.

"It is a challenging show," said Brown, mentioning the difficult music and mature characters, and the amount of financial resources and time that have gone into putting on the show.

Brown recently took her students to New York City to experience the show on Broadway, and met with a friend who works in lighting design on Broadway shows.  It turned out that his show was ending, so he is in Leesburg helping pull together the final touches.

"He is teaching us tricks that he learned from working on Broadway.  It is neat for the kids to work with a professional.  He is teaching them everything he knows," Brown said.

Despite missing many days of rehearsal due to winter storms, Brown said the students are ready and have set high expectations for themselves.  "Parents and the tech crew have been here for the past few months building the set, which is a stage on top of a stage that rotates," Brown said.
