Bliss Is Right Around the Corner

Almost time to garden!

I have big plans for this year’s garden. Chris and I started a garden last year, but it was too far away from the house. I also had two knee surgeries, which made tending difficult. But this year will be different, I just know it!

Visions of raised beds, mulch and green leafy vegetables dance in my head. Thoughts of summer salads (picked five minutes ago!) adorning my humble dining table make me sigh with anticipation. The smells, sights and tastes of gardening are nigh. We will live off the earth and be better for it.

The tomatoes! Few things get me more excited than eating a just picked tomato, still warm from the summer sun. Heirlooms, Roma, grape, cherry… you name it, I will have it! Fantastic tomatoes, with just the right balance of sweet and acid. I can almost taste summer.

And I think I will do strawberries too. Red and juicy, perfect for an ice cream topping, dessert or short cake. Yummm.

Thoughts of planting my garden in a few short weeks are getting me through the spikes of 30 degree weather, similar to the one that greeted me this morning.

Soon, I won’t have to warm up my car for ten minutes! Soon, I won’t need gloves and a winter coat. Soon, I will retire my knee high riding boots, my space heater in my office and my thick woolly scarves. Soon, I will have my garden to occupy the longer summer days.

Soon. Bliss is coming soon.
