The impressive growth of Berkeley County

Berkeley County, West Virginia is an area that perfectly exemplifies the idea of balance - striking the perfect combination of staying true to its roots, while also growing to remain a prominent member of West Virginia's eastern panhandle. A recent article from The Journal, a daily newspaper based in Martinsburg, profiled the impressive growth in Berkeley County over recent years as businesses continue to come to the the area and population increases.

In the past 20 years, Berkeley County has seen its population increase from about 50,000 to almost 110,000, according to the article from The Journal. According to information from the West Virginia Secretary of State, Berkeley County was one of the top leaders in the state for new businesses in 2013, with 446 businesses opening. More business leads to job creation, an important factor in any local economy.

The increasing population over the past 20 years has been vital in attracting new businesses, according to The Journal, but it’s not the only factor at play. Businesses are also attracted to the area because of its proximity to Interstate 81, a major transportation corridor. Interstate 81 is a huge draw for businesses in the area, but also for residents of Arcadia Springs and other local communities, who benefit from efficient transportation options.
