'Beamer' Author Makes Inova Loudoun Donation

Proceeds from the book series released in September provided for the $18,000 gift.

A dog named Beamer delivered an $18,000 donation to Inova Loudoun Hospital Monday. Well, sort of.

Cindy Chambers, an Inova Loudoun Hospital board member, wrote a book series intended to help kids meet the wonderful doctors and other health professionals who work at the hospital. Chambers wanted children to read the books and become more aware of how a hospital works and the machinery they may encounter, to make visits less intimidating.

The four-book Beamer Book Series features a dog –you guessed it, named Beamer – as the main character. In the books, Beamer introduces the people he meets while working as a therapy dog in the hospital.

Chambers has dedicated all of the book series’ proceeds to charity. The first donation of $18,000 was given to Inova Loudoun Hospital Monday.

Beamer presented the check to Dr. Edward Puccio, medical director for Inova Loudoun’s Department of Emergency Medicine, which will be used in the Pediatric Emergency Department. Puccio is also a character in the Beamer book series.
