Five Things To Know This Week

In case you didn't know, here are five things taking place in Leesburg this week.

1. The Leesburg Environmental Advisory Commission will host a free “green bag” luncheon program entitled “Building a Green Business Plan Using a Personal Review Checklist” from 12 noon to 1 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 24. The program will be held in the Town Council Chambers on the second floor of Town Hall, 25 West Market Street in downtown Leesburg. Attendees should bring a laptop with wi-fi capabilities for online scoring and are welcome to bring their lunch. 2. Bluegrass music group Bill Yates & the Country Gentlemen Tribute Band will be performing at the Lucketts Bluegrass Concert Series, at Lucketts Elementary School located at 14550 James Monroe Highway, in Leesburg.  The event will take place on Saturday, Feb. 25. Show admission is $15 at the door. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the show will begin at 7 p.m. The community center is a smoke and alcohol free environment. Light food will be available for purchase.

3. Documentary: 300 Miles to Freedom will be held from 2o to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 26 at the Thomas Balch Library. The documentary chronicles John W Jones’ journey to freedom on the Underground Railroad and his remarkable life as a free man in Elmira, New York. The event is free and open to the public.

4. Leesburg's Carlos Salon & Medi-Spa will debut its new offerings during a grand opening celebration Sunday, Feb. 26. Mini demonstrations of the new services will be offered including botox, fillers, photofacials and i-lipo, which is a laser fat reduction and body shaping treatment. Meet the new staff of the medi-spa, enjoy soothing music, enter to win door prizes and sample wine and light refreshments. The event will take place from 2 to 6 p.m. Carlos Salon & Medi-Spa is located at 212 South King Street in the Old & Historic District. Call 703-927-0044. 

5. The Master Singers will perform Shakespeare of Today on Sunday, Feb. 26 beginning at 7 p.m. The concert will feature new music by Estonian composer Rene Eespere and the greatest choral masterpiece by two composers, Jaakko Mantyjarvi'sCanticum Calamitatis Maritimae and Benjamin Britten's Hymn to St. Cecilia. The ensemble will also sing a number of jazz-influenced settings of texts by William Shakespeare. The event will take place at 20600 Red Cedar Dr # A, in Leesburg. Tickets are $15 adults, $12 students/seniors.
