Get Out: First Friday, Concerts, Autism Awareness and More

If you are looking for things to do this weekend, here are a few fun events in and around Leesburg.

Friday, April 5

  • Leesburg First Friday.  6 - 9 p.m.  Shop Historic Downtown Leesburg, wine tastings and live music. LeesburgfirstFriday.com.
  • First Friday Lecture at the Loudoun Museum.  6 p.m.  Author William Connery speaks about Mosby’s Raids in Civil War Northern Virginia.  30 min lectures begin on the hour.  The Loudoun Museum, 16 Loudoun St, SW, Leesburg. 
  • Drymill Road Presents Bluegrass and Beyond, Acoustic Burgoo, Buds Collective. 7 p.m. Tickets $10 Adv - $15 DOS. Drymill Road is an americana bluegrass band playing high energy and heartfelt original material along with their own tasty versions of classics from Led Zeppelin, Dylan, The Beatles, and more. Since it's inception in late 2009, the band as played over 300 shows and has created a unique and tightly woven sound that thrills its growing audience from the first note to the last.   • Inova Loudoun Hospital Offering Safe Sitter® Classes.  8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Ages 11-13. The cost is $75 and includes the student handbook, snacks during the day and a tour of the Mobile Health Unit. To register your son or daughter or your child’s babysitter, call 571-308-5794.   • American Girl author Valerie Trip Talk and Book Signing at Oatlands. 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. $20/person. The Carriage House at Oatlands Historic House and Gardens, 20850 Oatlands Plantation Ln., Leesburg. Oatlands.org.
  • Master Gardeners Annual Gardening Symposium. April 6 and 7. Loudoun County’s Master Gardeners kick off this year’s Spring gardening season with their fourth annual symposium packed with topics ranging from “Ten Steps to a Greener Lawn” to “Have Your Yard and Eat It Too.” Participants can register for one day ($45) or two ($70), with lunch included. A vegetarian option is available. The Annual Symposium helps deliver on the Master Gardeners’ core mission of working with the Virginia Cooperative Extension to encourage and promote environmentally sound horticultural practices through sustainable landscape management education for the Loudoun County Community.   • Junior Woman’s Club of Loudoun Annual Prom Wishes Event. 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Teen Center, Rust Library, 380 Old Waterford Rd, Leesburg. 
  • Blues and Soul Review with The Gold Sauce. 8 p.m. Tickets: $10 adv; $15 day of show. Swampy funk and soul that sticks to your ribs. This Virgnia Beach power trio brings it all: tone, taste and talent. Tally Ho Theatre, 19 W Market St, Leesburg. Tallyhotheatre.com.
