Leesburg’s Pool at Ida Lee Goes to the Dogs Sept. 7

Residents are invited to bring their hounds by for a dip during the annual Dog Swim, which benefit the Leesburg Dog Park.

For a fifth year, residents are invited to the Dog Swim at Ida Lee Park’s A.V. Symington Aquatic Center in Leesburg Saturday Sept. 7.

The 501(c)(3) Leesburg Dogs Inc. is sponsoring the event. The organization, formed in 2009, supports the Leesburg Dog Park and has partnered with the Leesburg Parks & Recreation Department to hold the annual Dog Swim after the pool closes for the season.

The swim begins at 10 a.m. and lasts until 2 p.m. Admission costs $5 per dog (cash only), with a limit of two dogs per handler. Because the dogs get excited and can be rambunctious, children under 8 are not allowed on the pool deck during the swim as a safety precaution. Children must stay in the enclosed area by the snack bar and must be supervised by a responsible adult.

In the past about 400 dogs have attended the swim, which occurs before the park winterizes the pool.

Proceeds benefit the Leesburg Dog Park at Olde Izaak Walton Park. Proceeds from previous Dog Swims were used to install benches outside the dog park fence as well as a water line and spigot inside the dog park fence.
