McGruff Safety Camp Applications Now Online

The 25th annual camp offers one-week sessions during the summer with morning and afternoon options.

UPDATE: As of May 3, these camps are full.

Applications for the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office’s 25th Annual McGruff Safety Camps are now available online. The LCSO offers morning and afternoon camps.

The camps, to be held at Evergreen Mill Elementary in Leesburg, allow children entering kindergarten and first grade to learn about safety, including fire safety, bicycle safety and 911 emergencies. Throughout the week children in the camp will meet law enforcement officers and K-9 officers, and see law enforcement and fire/rescue vehicles firsthand.

The camps run Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. The dates for the camps are:

  • June 24 – June 28
  • July 8 – July 12
  • July 15 – July 19

The camps began in the summer of 1988 and have continued each summer through the cooperation of the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office and Loudoun County Fire, Rescue and Emergency Management.

Download registration forms at http://sheriff.loudoun.gov/mcgruffcamps. The applications must be mailed to: Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office, 37 Catoctin Circle, SE, Leesburg, VA 20175. Applications that are dropped off or faxed will not be accepted.

I mailed my application the exact day it was made available and did not get in. Seems like these safety camps are so popular and also so important, why can't they offer more of them? Perhaps in other locations in Loudoun. I want my son to attend a camp like this before starting Kindergarten. Any suggestions on where else I can go? Thank you!
