NWS: Possible Rain, Thunderstorms in Northern Virginia Friday

Main threat is east of I-95 in the afternoon.

The National Weather Service has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for Friday for the DC metro area including Northern Virginia.

The area can expect rain likely beginning in the late morning into the afternoon with isolated thunderstorms producing possibly damaging wind gusts. "Wind gusts past 30 mph are a good bet in heavier shower or thunderstorm activity, with an outside shot of reaching potentially damaging wind speeds of 50 mph or so, mainly east or southeast of the city," warns the Capital Weather Gang.

Showers could begin as early as 8-10 a.m. in the western suburbs.

The main threat area may be focused east of I-95 during the afternoon, according to the weather service. Some areas could see up to a half-inch of rain Friday.

Highs will be in the mid-50s up near 60 degrees Friday.

A Small Craft Advisory is in effect for the Potomac River Friday. Special marine warnings could also become necessary in showers and isolated thunderstorms.

Weekend temperatures should reach up to about 60 degrees with sunny skies Saturday and cloudy skies on Sunday.
