Patch Picks

Be safe and healthy this week with Patch Picks.

Safety and health. It's difficult to think of things that are more important. This week in Patch Picks, we highlight a few programs in and around Leesburg that will keep you and your family safe and healthy.

The Red Cross is holding a class at 604 S King Street that will "provide the lay responder with the knowledge and skills necessary in an emergency to help sustain life and to minimize pain and the consequences of injury or sudden illness until professional medical help arrives." Registration is available at redcrossnca.org.

This free event covers everything from dental hygiene to disaster preparedness. Kids can tour ambulances and fire trucks, try on fire fighter gear and even win a fire truck ride to school. It's completely free and is guaranteed to blow the mind of any future fire fighters in your home.

Raising healthy kids can start with something as simple as a play date. YMCA Healthy Kids Day aims to improve the well-being of both kids and the rest of their families by getting everyone up and moving. Held at Camp Highroad in Middleburg, families can enjoy an obstacle course along with relay races, face painting and giveaways.

Whether your teen is looking to start babysitting neighborhood kids or just looking after his/her younger siblings, the Red Cross Babysitter's Training class is a must. Participants will "develop leadership skills; learn how to develop a babysitting business, keep themselves and others safe and help children behave; and learn about basic child care and basic first aid." Registration is available at redcrossnca.org.
