Patch Picks

In this week's Patch Picks, we give you some fun ways to help out charity.

Dance parties, golf, and empty bowls. This week, we give you some fun ways to make a difference in your community.

Tomorrow, Friday April 29, join Giving Circle of Hope at St. John Neumann Church in Reston for a fundraiser to feed the hungry. Your minimum $20 donation gets a meal, a collectible bowl, and money donated to the largest distributor of free food in Northern Virginia.

Also on April 29, you can head down to Aloft hotel in Ashburn and join 100WOMENTSTRONG for their second annual Denim and Dance party. Tickets are $100 ($125 at the door). Money raised goes to various organizations that help support and improve the lives of women and children in Loudoun County.

On Saturday, April 30, you can strap on your running shoes and get down to Sport and Health in Brambleton for a race benefiting the Journey 4 A Cure organization, inspired by Declan Carmical. Raise money and awareness for pediatric cancer victims and their families.

Join your fellow golfers on Saturday, April 30 at the Lansdowne golf course for the 10th annual Heroes of Hope Golf Tournament. Heroes of Hope was started by Lisa Kaminsky Millar "to help combat brain cancer after her 29 year old brother passed away from the disease."  The cost is $200/golfer, and $75/person for the dinner and auction that follows.

23-year-old Spanky's Shenanigans employee Heather recently underwent surgery for two stage-4 brain tumors. She is facing a long road to recovery, including 6-12 months of chemotherapy. To show their support, her friends at Shenanigans are holding an auction and fundraiser on Saturday April 30, from 2-8. Come on out, listen to the 6 different bands that will be playing on the back patio and bid on some amazing prizes, including Personal Chef Service (up to 20) from former White House Executive Chef, Author and Iron Chef Winner, Walter Schieb.
