Plans in Motion to Widen Loudoun Co. Parkway (Route 606)

Transportation officials are looking to start the process of widening the southern leg of Loudoun County Parkway and Old Ox Road, a $105 million project.

Earlier this week, the governor’s office announced that the Virginia Department of Transportation is looking for proposals from the construction industry to design and complete the project.

The expansion seeks to ease traffic congestion on the parkway by rebuilding the existing two-lane rural road to four lanes between Evergreen Mills Road and the Dulles Greenway, according to VDOT. The project also calls for a patch for cyclists and pedestrians.

The initial $105 million phase of the project will be funded by VDOT, Loudoun County and the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority.

Drivers trying to get to Ashburn, Sterling and Herndon frequently used the road, VDOT said.

Plans are still on the books to connect the two segments of Loudoun County Parkway as well.
