Two Injured in Church Roof Collapse Will Recover

Building of Evergreen Methodist Church in Leesburg to continue as scheduled, pastor says

Two carpenters at Evergreen Methodist Church will recover, according to Church Pastor Chip Giessler.

The trusses fell at the building on Evergreen Mill Rd in Leesburg early Monday afternoon, and the two carpenters fell with them.

Giessler has spoken with the men, he said Tuesday. One has sustained injuries to his leg but was released from the hospital; the other sustained injuries to his shoulder and was expected to come home from the hospital Tuesday.

"It was a great thing that the injuries were not worse than they were, considering the the fall they took," Giessler said.

Evergreen Methodist Church, founded in 1999, has 220 people who are actively involved with the church.  The church has worshipped for 11 years at Evergreen Mill Elementary School.  For the past year and a half, the church has met at Loudoun Country Day school.

The new church building is expected to open in early 2013.  Evergreen Methodist has owned the land since 1999 and has provided use of the land to Loudoun County Parks and Recreation for youth soccer programs, Giessler said.

Once the construction is done, the church plans to reopen the soccer fields to Loudoun County.

Giessler said the construction work is planning to be up and running again soon. The  project is being handled by a professional building company and is not being built by volunteers, he said.

"A church is really about the people who worship, serve and go in their faith.  A building isn't necessary, but it will be a great asset to our mission," Giessler added.
