West Loudoun Street Cafe

In this week's edition of Getting Out in Leesburg, we head downtown and visit West Loudoun Street Cafe.

I'm always looking for a new place to have a quick lunch. I often find myself downtown, but I usually end up in one of only a few places - and more often that not, I just grab a sandwich from (even though they totally broke my heart by taking away the Veggie Muffuletta, but that's a different story). So it was a mixture of my need to find more lunch locations and to find a topic for this week's column that led me to West Loudoun Street Cafe.

The number one thing West Loudoun Street Cafe has going for it is its location. Directly across from the parking garage, you don't really have to worry about the nightmare of street parking in Downtown Leesburg at around lunch time.

Due to its Loudoun Street location, they can also have seating out front instead of in the back, like or . This is important as it means that you won't have any unfortunate dumpster odors ruining your lunch. Plus, as an added bonus, it's right next door to , so you can indulge in a little post-lunch shopping if you've got a little extra time.

West Loudoun isn't a typical deli, even though you'll find many common deli items, such as corned beef sandwiches, egg salad and more. Instead of ordering at the counter though, there's actually a wait staff who comes over and takes care of you. It was a nice day and I chose to sit outside and enjoy the weather with my view of Loudoun Street and the .

The service was fast, and I ordered a delicious vegetarian sandwich. Sprouts, cucumbers, lettuce and tomato with Italian Dressing on wheat bread. You also get a choice of cheese with the sandwiches, and I was excited to see Havarti as one of the options (sometimes a girl just gets tired of provolone).

The sandwich just comes with a pickle, but like most similar places, there's an assortment of potato chips if you want something else. They also have soups, including gazpacho.

One other interesting thing I noticed about West Loudoun Street Cafe is the interior. Instead of your normal plastic or wooden chairs, they have cushy upholstered ones that look incredibly cozy and give the place a more European cafe feel.

West Loudoun also serves delicious coffee drinks and desserts, and they also have a cheap drink menu ($3 for beer and $4.75 for wine), so there's something for any time of the day. If you're looking for a quick bite to eat without feeling rushed, West Loudoun Street Cafe is a great place to go.
