Enjoy the annual potato harvest and feast on all-you-can-eat pancakes at The Big Dig Potato Harvest & Pancake Breakfast September 1 & 2. Most grocery stores carry the previous year’s potatoes. The flavor and texture of fresh potatoes tastes like a completely different vegetable. A pancake breakfast will be served until 11:30am when hay rides begin to transport folks to the potato fields. Kids love to see where their food comes from and farm partner Cookology creates new recipes and cooking classes for each harvest. Plenty of fresh potatoes will be available in the farm market along with a variety of other produce and a unique selection of locally produced meat and dairy products. Guests are encouraged to visit adjacent Bluemont Vineyards to round out their day.
The weekend includes catch and release fishing in the pond. Visitors are asked to bring their own rods and live bait is available in the country store. The Farm’s signature Roosteraunt features BBQ, natural hot dogs, burgers and fresh kettle corn. There is live music all weekend with Brendan Pelan & Chick Hall on Saturday and Lloyd Dobler Effect on Sunday. Kids & adults can roam the five acre playground with a 2800 square foot Giant Jumping Pillow, rope swings, giant slides and more. The Country Store also carries jams, jellies and other gifts crafted by local artisans.
