Walking To School Can Create Obstacle For Drivers

School walkers can make the morning commute a challenge. What do you think?

A Patch reader submitted these pictures from the morning rush on first day back to school for Loudoun County students Tuesday. The pictures were taken along Hay Road near the main school entrance.

The crosswalks for the school are at the corner of Hay Road and Claiborne Parkway, but students often cross in the middle of the block. For many students at Stone Bridge, walking to school is nothing new, but the enforcement of a long-standing school policy this year requires most students within one mile of their school to walk. While this situation occurred in Ashburn, residents across the county have expressed strong feelings one way or the other about the walking policy.

What do you think? Who should be held responsible for hazardous crossings? The students for failing to use existing crosswalks? The school system for failing to provide more convenient crosswalks? How are the walkers near you?
