Animal Au Paws Announces Annual Charity Drive

Local pet sitting service unleashes its "Have a Heart for Homeless Pets" donation drive.

Animal Au Paws, Inc (AAP) is launching its 2012 “Have a Heart for Homeless Pets” donation drive from Feb. 11 to 18.

The “Have a Heart for Homeless Pets” charity drive is seeking both monetary donations as well as crates/kennels, pet beds, blankets, towels, toys, dry and canned food, and treats, among other things.

The donations will benefit homeless animals with the Loudoun County-based Save the Tails Rescue Group, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization established to rescue dogs and puppies from rural area high kill shelters.

Save the Tails does not have a shelter or facility, but rather relies on foster families in the area to rescue the dogs and then helps to place them in permanent loving homes, giving them a second chance at a happy life.

Because Save the Tails is strictly volunteer, they rely largely on community support to aid them in their mission. Financial donations are critical to enable more dogs to be spayed or neutered, get vaccinated, receive pre-adoption veterinary care, and sometimes emergency care, in addition to travel and transport expenses.

Pet care items are also needed to help aid the fostering families in the care for the dogs and help make the transition for them easier.

Animal Au Paws learned of Save the Tails through its work with area animals, and felt they would be a fitting beneficiary of their charity drive they do each year in conjunction with the week of Valentine’s Day.

“At AAP, we try to make it a habit to give back to the community, especially where animals are concerned,” said AAP owner Rosie Bundick. “The economy has been tight for many in recent years but we definitely don’t want to forget our four-legged friends. This is an endeavor that we are especially proud of and we look forward to it each year.”

During the “Have a Heart” donation period several local veterinary hospitals and pet care service professionals have partnered with AAP and will have a donation box at their business, accepting both monetary and item donations.

Participating businesses include: (Leesburg), Ashburn Village Animal Hospital, Bark N Bubbles (Ashburn), Countryside Animal Clinic (Sterling), Dominion Animal Hospital (Herndon) and Doggie Wash (Purcellville).

“It’s really wonderful that these businesses jumped at the opportunity to help participate,” Bundick said. “We couldn’t do it without their support.”

Monetary donations can also be mailed to AAP Headquarters located at 38192 Highland Farm Place, Purcellville, VA 20132. If you would like more information on the “Have a Heart for Homeless Pets” donation drive or would like to make arrangements to drop off used or new items, please call AAP at 703-669-5255.
