in Leesburg is participating in a month-long fundraising effort for Special Olympics Virginia. It is the first time that event is taking place statewide.
For the remainder of the month, guests will have the option to purchase Special Olympics paper logos for $1, which will be displayed throughout the local business. The fundraiser will end with a local Dough Raisers event on May 2.
“CiCi’s Pizza is committed to serving the communities and is always looking for ways to help support local organizations,” said Leesburg owner Paul Miller. “The Virginia Special Olympics is a great organization servicing a lot of participants and families. Without even asking we’ve gotten quite a bit of support.”
Special Olympics Virginia provides year-round sports training and athletic competitions in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. This training gives participants the opportunity to develop physically and emotionally while experiencing joy and participating in sharing gifts, skills and friendships.
“Special Olympics allows people with intellectual disabilities to be part of a larger community of athletes, coaches, volunteers and supporters,” said Special Olympics Virginia President Rick Jeffrey, in a press release. “Partnerships with organizations like CiCi’s Pizza allow us to boost our fundraising efforts and help more individuals and families in Virginia.”
On Wednesday, Miller said he is pleased to see how well the community has stepped up to join the local efforts in raising funds. He hopes to raise anywhere between $500 to $1,000.
“We’re very thankful for the community support and look forward to seeing how much we can raise throughout the rest of the fundraiser,” Miller said. “If you visit CiCi’s regularly we’d love to have your donation to support the Virginia Special Olympics and we invite every one to come out on May 2.”
The grand total of money raised from the statewide sale will be announced at the annual Virginia Law Enforcement Torch Run Final Leg Ceremony held in Richmond on June 8. Visit the Leesburg location for more information.
