Deli South

In this week's edition of Getting Out in Leesburg, I find my new post-Farmer's Market stop.

As someone who has worked in advertising and marketing, I always like to make a note of what works. Last Saturday, a simple sign worked for me: It advertised "The Best Breakfast in Leesburg" at . 30 minutes later, I was placing my order.

I don't know why Deli South wasn't on my radar; it's been in Leesburg for years. I'm glad I rediscovered it though, because Leesburg has a real lack of inexpensive breakfast options that aren't fast food. Now, I have a new place to go every Saturday after I stop by the Farmer's Market for my column.

With a large amount of indoor seating as well as some outdoor seating, you don't have to worry about waiting around for a table during the weekend breakfast rush. It's also a perfect place to take the kids (especially the young ones) because you order and pay at the counter. This means that when your kid decides that he can't sit at the table for one more moment and tries to make a run to the parking lot that you can just get up and go before there's a scene. Not that I have any personal experience with this, of course.

While at Deli South, I just had to try one of their fresh, homemade bagels (they come out of the oven every morning starting at 6:30). Along with an egg sandwich on a croissant, coffee and fresh-squeezed orange juice, we had quite the breakfast, for not very much money.

Even better; they deliver. Somebody bringing bagels to you? It doesn't get any better than that. Of course, since they're a deli, they have plenty of delicious, homemade lunch items that are also available for delivery.

All of Deli South's sandwiches are named after people, so you can stop by for lunch and have the Mark Twain, or perhaps the Rhett Butler. Once I have a chance to stop in for lunch I plan on trying the George Mason, which is "Marinated and sauteed artichoke hearts, mushrooms, and roasted peppers, served hot on our 8 inch roll with marinara and mozzarella."

They also prepare salads fresh at the deli, as well as sides, including potato salad, macaroni salad and cole slaw. You can even get a fresh-baked cookie or brownie for dessert!

Whether you're looking for a place to grab a bite after the farmer's market like I was, or if you want lunch delivered to your office, be sure to give Deli South a try.
