Finch Sewing Studio Opens in Leesburg

A home for sewing enthusiasts is now open in Leesburg.

The Finch Sewing Studio opened recently at 102 Loudoun Street S.W.  in a historic building built in 1790. It’s owned by Nicole Morgenthau, a Leesburg mother who had previously worked as a schoolteacher.

“I worked in Portland at a similar studio and when we moved out here there was nothing like it,” Morgenthau said. “I just really wanted to create a community of people who like to sew and make things.”

The approximately 800-square-foot studio offers classes.

“It’s like sewing with a safety net,” Morgenthau said. “I also do open sew hours where people can come in and sew on my machine and they can make a mess in my space and not mess up their own.”

She also sells fabrics at the store, notions, patterns, and sewing tools.

“I’m interested in pulling all age groups and different sewing interests. I have quilters who come and I have people who are interested in sewing clothes,” Morgenthau said. “Both interest areas are represented in my studio.”
