Girl's Night Out to Honor Breast Cancer Awareness

Fourteen merchants in the historic downtown will feature discounts, specials and cupcakes provided by Mom's Apple Pie, Lightfoot Bakery and Lola's Cookies & Treats.

The Leesburg Downtown Business Association will be hosting their monthly Girl’s Night Out event on Thursday, Oct. 20. This month, fourteen participating merchants will honor Breast Cancer Awareness Month while serving free cupcakes courtesy of , and .

“We’re excited to provide the goodies for everyone,” said Lola’s Cookies and Treats Manager Jillian Cimino. The bakery will provide a dark chocolate cupcake with chocolate ganache and a pink ribbon on top, Cimino said, as well as a vanilla cupcake with pink vanilla frosting and sprinkles. Proceeds from these special cupcakes will be donated to Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

“Personally, I have family members that have been affected by breast cancer,” Cimino said. “I think it’s just great that everyone is becoming so aware of it and taking action to prevent it.”

According to Event Organizer Terri Downs, this is the first time that that Girl’s Night Out will honor breast cancer awareness month. Each month has a different theme and specials, she said, including in November and “Secret Santa” in December.

“Girl's Night Out is a night set aside for "the girl's" to come to Leesburg to shop late,” Downs said. “It is the only night other than First Friday where the stores stay open for business until 9 p.m. It is a good time to come in for good food and fun shopping.”

When coming into downtown Leesburg, Downs said participants should follow the breast cancer balloons, which will be in front of all the participating stores.  Inside will be “Thinking of You” boards, which will allow everyone to write the name of someone they know who is, or has been, fighting the disease.

Along with free cupcakes, participants will have the opportunity to receive special store promotions and gifts from places like , , and . The event will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. Visit the new Girl's Night Out website to learn more.
