Holiday Shopping Spotlight: The Reign of Cats and Dogs

A pet boutique in downtown Leesburg offers a variety of treasures for pets and their owners

Kim Williams, owner of the Reign of Cats and Dogs, knows what your pet wants for Christmas, and she probably has it in stock.

"This month we've sold lots of ornaments, treats, about a million collars and bandanas and toys," she said.

Located in the upstairs of an old building in historic Leesburg, the specialty shop has four rooms full of novelty items for your favorite pet. She has stocked up on holiday items and they are flying off the shelves like hotcakes.

"I started getting ready for the holidays back in August, before people were even thinking about them," she said. "I had to start beefing up our regular categories and to make sure that I had enough in stock come December I had to plan in advance."

The shop has gift items for cats and dogs as well as their people. Signs, coffee mugs, magnets, socks, ornaments and cards are popular items for pet lovers whereas collars, balls, toys, treats, beds, food or water bowls and bath supplies are geared toward the pets. The Reign of Cats and Dogs even sells nickel bags of catnip—the legal drug for cats.

Since opening in 2004, Williams has seen a lot of foot traffic, December being her busiest month of the year.

"I think my customers are the nicest, most loyal people in the world," she said.

The shop is located at 13 ½ South King St. Business hours are Sunday from 1:00pm-5:00pm; Monday by chance; and Tuesday – Saturday from 11:00am-5:00pm.
