Leesburg Animal Park Begins Work on Expansion

New 8,000-square-foot building will allow the park to remain open all year.

Leesburg Animal Park has begun construction of an 8,000-square-foot entry building at its property in Leesburg along Route 15.

The new $1.3 million building will provide space for birthday parties, live animal exhibits, an indoor play zone, a theater, restrooms, and a snack bar and deli. The park will remain open during construction.

“We have wanted to improve the facilities at the park for some time now,” owner and director Shirley Johnson said in a recent announcement. “After several years of planning, we are thankful that Loudoun County approved the site plan for the new building as well as other improvements.”

The animal park anticipates completing the work in about six months.

"We hope to have the building ready for its grand opening during our fall festival, Pumpkinville, which runs late September to early November," Johnson said.

By offering activities indoors, the park can stay open all year instead of closing for four months each year.

The new building represents the first phase of planned site improvements at the 21-acre park.

Leesburg Animal Park, a family owned and operated business, opened in 2000. The park offers pony and camel rides, live animal encounters, wagon rides, exotic animal exhibits and more.

Admission costs $8.95 for seniors and kids – children under 2 are FREE; $10.95 for adults; and $6.50 for school groups. Visit www.LeesburgAnimalPark.com for more details.
