Local Businesses Ready for St. Patrick's Day

Specials, live music and games will all be a part of Thursday's festivities.

A number of local businesses will be celebrating St. Patrick's Day on Thursday, offering themed food and drink, live music, games and more.

Beginning at 7 a.m., Spanky's Shenanigans, located at 538 East Market Street, will offer their famous green eggs and beer. An Irish menu, with traditional Irish dishes, will be available throughout the day.

At noon, the Brian Fox Band will perform, followed by the Oren Polak Duo from 4 - 8 p.m. and Yoko Says No from 9 p.m. - close.

“We've been doing this party for well over 25 years. People should definitely stop by,” said Manager Jeff Ayres, who added that the outside patio deck will be open all day. “It's our busiest day of the year. And you're not going to find a more authentic St. Patty's day party without going to one of the main cities like Boston, Chicago or Dublin.”

Specials such as $.50 cent wings will be held throughout the day including the complete regular happy hour menu.

Two poker games will be available at 7 and 9:30 p.m. Doors open at 11 am.

“It's our first one and I'm looking forward to it just to see who we get in here,” said Manager Christine Spata. Sal's NY Bar and Grille has been open since last June. “It's going to be a great time. You'll get to see all of Sal's family, we'll all be here. It's a really great location and maybe we can be added as someone's hangout for summer. We've got a lot of great events coming up.”

The Greene Turtle, located at 603 Potomac Station Dr, will also take part in festivities.

Corned beef and cabbage, Chesapeake fish and chips and Reuben's will be served. Drink specials will be available as well as Karaoke, beginning at 9 pm.

“Obviously, St. Patrick's Day has evolved around the drinking aspect but we're going to provide [Irish] food as well,” Manager James Carransa said, promising that it will be a good time.
