Local Girl Scouts Focus on Energy Efficiency

Troop 913 focused on "It's Your Planet-Love It" during a visit to Jumping Jack Sports in Ashburn.

Leesburg Girl Scout Troop 913 is undertaking a journey this year that is focused on "It's Your Planet-Love It."

As a result, the girls visited Jumping Jack Sports, in Ashburn, last Thursday. The core focus of the journey was to learn about energy, said parent Sharon Wright, and the fourth and fifth grade girls conducted an energy audit at the local business.

“We chose Jumping Jack Sports because it was a building that our girls knew from playing and attending birthday parties, but this time, we asked them to take a decidedly different approach,” Wright said.

The girls asked owner Derek Sundra about 30 questions surrounding the topic of energy and his building. They were then asked to record the areas where the business is being energy efficient and ways in which the space could improve. Wright said that the girls will present their findings in two weeks during their next meeting.
