Don’t let the name mislead you: Mom’s Apple Pie in Leesburg is about more than just pies of the apple variety.
So what will be their top selling pastry this year?
“After 30 years experience, I can say it will be pumpkin, followed by apple pie. After that, the best sellers are pecan, apple crumb and chocolate pecan,” said Avis Renshaw, owner of Mom’s Apple Pie Co.
Wednesday will be their biggest selling day this week, but the company is prepared and focused on making it fun, Renshaw said. They will be offering cider out front for customers who may have to wait in line to make their pie selections.
Recently, Mom’s Apple Pie lost some space in its parking lot, since the town council decided move forward with the East End Triangle improvements.
“It’s very frustrating and there is lots of honking. People are confused,” Renshaw said about the parking situation.
“The neighboring stores have been extremely helpful and accommodating and have offered their parking spaces for our employees to free up room during this Thanksgiving rush. We are very grateful for our great neighbors here,” Renshaw added.
Customers will also notice a special tent set up outside the store, which is run by Cultured Yogurt‘s Ansa Cox, who is also Renshaw‘s daughter. She is selling prepackaged frozen soups and yogurt, which are sold by the quart.
They will be selling a variety of soups including burgundy beef, thai coconut pumpkin, white bean chicken chili, ancho pork and hominy, sweet potato corn chowder and potato leek for sale. All of the soups are made with local, homegrown vegetables from their farm and are “absolutely delicious,” Renshaw said.
For last minute pie shoppers, the bakery will be open until 7 p.m. Wednesday and then re-open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thanksgiving.
“The goal is to keep it fun. People should remember that the whole point is you are getting a pie to enjoy with your family. Just relax and enjoy the pies and your time together,” Renshaw said.
