past weekend, the Town of Leesburg welcomed CraftyStitches to the community with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
The retailer opened in the Village at Leesburg.
The store marks the next step for CraftyStitches, which for the past three years has operated as an online business.
Loudoun County resident Jennifer Michaels owns and operates the business and said she set out to follow her passion for traditional crafts and organic fabrics. Michaels made the switch to the business after spending years in the corporate world.
CraftyStitches offers a range of services, including sewing classes for bridal parties, and has won several awards for innovative ideas and business model. In 2011, CraftyStitches took first place in the Loudoun Small Business Development Center’s annual Business Plan Contest, in the Scalable Business Model category.
With the new shop, Michaels can offer her newest initiative, Sew Genius™, a series of sewing camps, classes and workshops incorporating S.T.E.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) technologies. Michaels aims to “merge the world of science and tradition” with S.T.E.M. classes which will be offered to adults and children of all ages.
