Primo Hoagies Opens in Leesburg

The Leesburg location is the first Primo Hoagies franchise in the state of Virginia.

Diane and Mark LeGette of Leesburg have long enjoyed weekend trips to Atlantic City. But their visits were never complete without a stop at a Primo Hoagies sandwich shop. They were hooked by the freshly made sandwiches with incredible flavor.

Instead of making a trip to find the perfect hoagie they decided to start their own franchise. Now the trip is a few minutes, not a few hundred miles.

Last week, Primo Hoagies of Leesburg opened their doors in the shopping center next to Home Depot, on Ft. Evans Rd across from the popular Leesburg Outlet Mall, which is always teeming with hungry bargain-hunters. Leesburg is now, thanks to the LeGettes, home of the first Primo Hoagies franchise in Virginia … putting a little bit of Philadelphia and south Jersey right here in Loudoun.

Mark and Diane’s personal favorite on the menu is the Roast Beef Schwartzie, which is Thumanns oven-roasted beef, Swiss cheese, cole slaw and Russian dressing.

According to the LeGettes, “It’s a classic made better”. For dessert the dirt pudding, though earthy-sounding, it's heaven-sent. "Once you taste it, you’re hooked”, the LeGettes added.

The LeGettes have been busy making their best-selling sandwich, which is the Italian. The meat is freshly sliced for every sandwich, and the “Primo” size has more than half a pound of meat, including prosciutto, provolone cheese, Thumanns hot capicola and natural casing Genoa salami on Primo bread.

Primo Hoagies started in Philadelphia about fifteen years ago as essentially a mom-and-pop corner deli. It’s rapid success has led to franchise expansion, which currently includes 86 locations in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland and now Virginia.

Michael Aruanno, VP of Primo Hoagies, outlined the company’s rapid growth, “We will have over 100 stores by the end of the year and we also plan to expand into New York City. We are also growing the Beltway/DC area pretty aggressively in the next couple of years.”  He added, “The store creates a buzz because there is nothing else like it in northern Virginia. It is an established franchise that has incredible brand loyalty.”

Other menu options include the Primo Hoagie Party Trays and Italian Sampler Platters which are very popular. There are “healthy” sandwiches made with meats that have less sodium or fat content, as well as vegetarian hoagies. You can also find chicken cutlet sandwiches, such as chicken parmigiana, as well as the “Diablos” made with Primos’ special blend of spices.

For those with a hunger pang instead of an appetite to tackle a full hoagie, don't despair: Primo Hoagie offers a well-stocked deli case full of ready to go sides and desserts, cookies, chips and drinks.

The LeGettes are very excited about their new business, “We’ve had a lot of people come in who are fans of Primo Hoagies and we know it is going to be a huge success in our area”.

Primo Hoagies is open 10 am to 8 pm 7 days a week, Leesburg Primo Hoagies also has a Facebook fan page with regular updates. Call 703-771-6398.

Will definitely try it out and hope its good but now we have Primo, Jersey Mike's, and Jimmy Johns on top of 2 Subways and 2 Quizno's, RJ's deli, Puccio's, and Deli South! Too many sub shops! Kind of wish new openings with new eats like a Bon Chon or Chipotle were happening.

Finally!!!! As someone born and raised in Philly I can say that I've tried the rest in town and this is the only sandwich truly worthy of being called a "hoagie"...
